CUTTING CORNERS
DESIGN CASE STUDY #3
Long narrow paths can be slightly off-putting particularly when they don’t seem to lead anywhere. In this Bangor garden - the path seemed to run into a large wall at the end but in reality it led onto a main route connecting the patio to the front garden.
To make the path a little more interesting - the corner was literally cut by placing a seating area in the wall which immediately opens up the tight intersection between the two paths.
Suddenly you are not so worried about the claustrophobic space or wasting your time walking towards a dead end. Instead you are guided towards the left hand side because the left corner has changed and the angle of both paths are pointing in the same direction.
There is the added benefit of a composite timber seat to take in a view across the garden, resting amongst the heavy planting.
